The FTE system consits of: pedal, clutch master cylinder, clutch pipe and clutch slave or concentric slave cylinder.

The clutch master cylinder is connected with the pedal by a push rod. When actuating the pedal, a piston inside of the clutch master cylinder is moved by the push rod, causing a displacement of the fluid volume. This results in the movement of the piston in the clutch slave cylinder, at the other end of the pipe. At the clutch slave cylinder the piston operates via a lever on the thrust bearing. At the concentric slave cylinder, however, it works directly on the thrust bearing.

For passenger car applications FTE automotive offers over center springs in order to help to achieve a comfortable pedal force. For heavy duty vehicles FTE automotive provides clutch servos.

In order to avoid peak torques caused by snap engagement of the clutch, FTE automotive supplies "Peak Torque Limiters" (PTL). They restrict the return speed of the clutch fluid and avoid excessively fast clutch engagement. To reduce pedal vibrations, caused by crank shaft vibrations, FTE automotive provides a frequency modulator.
